Welcome back for the second part of our Values Workshop!
You can find all three parts via the shortcuts below:
The questions and conversation that kicked off after Week 1 were so wonderfully thought-provoking (hopefully they were for you too?) and I find myself already going deeper into my own thoughts on values as a result. So for everyone who has dropped into the comments from last week, thank you!
This week is about putting your values in to practical terms, and learning how to solidify them into driving forces in your life.
If you’ve read Slow you might not be surprised about this week’s exercise, but if you haven’t, please believe me when I say it has been one of the most transformative experiences of my life. It’s not easy, and will likely take some time to process, but as we dig further into what it means to live a values-aligned life, it will prove really powerful.
To dig in, you’ll need:
time - the video goes for just under 30 minutes and the exercise will likely take you an hour or more (it can easily be broken up over several days)
journal, notebook or printed copy of the worksheets below
a pencil – this is important! (I explain why in the video)
As with last week, take your time working through the questions and exercise. It’s probably even deeper work than last week, and doesn’t need to be rushed.
I know there were several questions last week about how to differentiate between values and tools and aspirations, and I think this week’s exercise might offer some insights. In my experience it can help to take a 10,000-foot view of things sometimes, and that’s what this week is all about.
At the end you’ll have the work you did in Week 1 (lists of small, values-aligned actions you can dip into any time) and the exercise you’ll complete this week (a big-picture view of what adds up to a life well lived). Together they’re going to help create a filter through which you can pass questions and choices. And doing that over time, as we spoke about last week, is how we end up creating a values-aligned life.
If you have questions after this week’s video, please feel free to leave them in the comments below, and I’ll try to answer them as they pop up. I’ll also be recording a Q&A video next week, so if you get your questions in before March 22nd, I’ll include them in the video too.
But for now, let’s dive in!
(If you’re having trouble accessing the video, head over here.)
I hope you enjoy it, and I’ll catch you next week.

Values workshop: Week 2
Thanks Brooke, I have all your books and pick them up regularly and re-read sections. Your books are what lead me here, as Slow was a game changer for me. It was nice to hear your Eulogy read aloud with your voice. I'll be working on these exercises during the week, still sitting with my values. Have a great day everyone. PS there is a lovely community of people here xx
Hi Brooke.
Some questions for the Q&A:
1) Is it okay to have more than say 5 values - I'm stuck on 7?
2) Would Self-Care be considered a value as opposed to "Health", incorporating such things as say yoga/meditation/work-life balance. Or is this more a tool?
3) How often do you recommend revisiting your values?
Thanks again xxx
