Welcome to Week 1 of our Values Workshop, where we dig into the core of our personal values. This week we look at what they are, why they matter and, most importantly, how to identify and define yours.
You can find all three weeks via the shortcuts below:
I’m genuinely thrilled to go deep into this topic with you, because learning about my own values and how to use them to make decisions has been one of the most transformative experiences of my life. Truly. And here’s hoping for a similar experience for you over the next few weeks too.
To get started, you’ll need:
time - the video runs for about half an hour and the main exercise will take at least 30 minutes to complete. After that there are also several questions for you to consider, but you’ll probably find that you come back to them over the coming days.
journal or notebook
printed copy of the values cards and worksheets below (alternatively, you can write by hand if you don’t have access to a printer or want to save paper)
It’s up to you whether you want to watch the video all the way through first, or do the exercise live, but whichever way you choose to approach it, I encourage you to take your time. There are some big questions to answer (or at least begin to answer) in this week’s exercises, and there is no need to rush through them.
If you have questions, please drop a comment below and I’ll include it in my Week 3 Q&A video (providing I receive it before March 22nd). If it’s after that date, drop me a comment below anyway and I’ll do my best to answer it.
So with no further preamble, let’s get into the juicy goodness of values!
If you’re having trouble playing the video above, try heading over here to watch instead.
And if you’re ready to dig into Week 2, you can head over here.

I found this exercise very helpful. If you had asked me my values before - they would have been close, but weren’t quite the right words. One actually surprised me! I am sitting with the words I think are more true and trying them out. Thanks Brooke! It was lovely to see you after hearing you for 8 years.
Hi Brooke and everyone 💛
Just finished watching the video. I have a question: can't really understand / feel the difference between the value itself and when it is just a tool to serve a value.
For example, health. Being physically and mentally healthy is important for me. Otherwise I don't have energy to be creative or going for a walk or enjoying time with my family. So I truly believed it was my value. Being in therapy or having yearly checkups or doing yoga etc, I like doing all these things, because they are my small steps that help me to be healthy. So is it my value or a tool?! To be honest, I'm confused right now.
