Oof, I'm still thinking about Guardians a LOT. I loved it, and definitely want to watch it again, but zany and madcap, like the first two, it certainly isn't. And I feel the same about Alone as you Conni. The contestants are such bad asses, and I love watching the way they inevitably soften to the land (or tap). It's beautiful and fascinating
I don't think so 😆 but then again, I am fairly strange myself! So so happy to have you here and not lying when I say I'm super excited too. Thank you!! 💚
Hi Brooke, great post as usual. You reminded me that my husband and I used to do a WIP at the start of every weekend so we both knew what the weekend would look like. Whether we had commitments/things we needed to get done around the house/downtime we both wanted etc. Mainly because hubby didn't like last minute surprises from me like "let's go shopping for furniture etc" lol. Hmm I think we need to start doing this again. Have a great weekend and really looking forward to the Rhythm workshop. PS your newsletters could never be too long xx
Brooke! LOVE your tilting advice - one of the biggest lessons I've learned from you over the years! And so excited you've got Hummingbird on your pile! My daughter and I both LOVED Isles of the Gods and Nightbirds is on the list! Monday's podcast ep is a deepdive masters series with Amie :) Thank you for your generous sharing, as always! xxx
Tilting!!!! Thank you for putting a positive spin on this and giving a word for where my focus goes - it's not ignoring - it's tilting in to the thing/person in front of you! LOVE
Ah, so many resonations! (Apparently not a word, according to the squiggly red line but I'm good with it ;)
Firstly, tilting ~ I have employed this idea so many times since I first heard of it. This week has been a case in point, helping my daughter in her small business as both her staff have been away sick. Other stuff will (might) get done next week! I've mentioned tilting to many people and whilst some get it straight away I've also had "Oh you mean prioritising!" from others. But to me, prioritising can imply 'get the most important thing done first then somehow squeeze everything else in as well'. So, no, I don't mean prioritising.
Secondly, I have finally (FINALLY - I'm 66 for heaven's sake!) stopped setting myself impossible goals and then beating myself up when I (inevitably) fail. Lower standards are the new ok and so far, no one has suffered (least of all me)
Thirdly, WIPs ~ back in the day when there were 6 of us around the table we used to have a Sunday 'family forum', only it was known as the 'family forearm' due to some cute mispronunciation by a then 3 yr old. My adult kids and I still have the occasional 'forearm' eg when planning the annual camping holiday but these days it's just the cat and me and she's not much of a one for chat. Her plan would consist entirely of 'sit down so I can sit on you, feed me, let me out, let me back in again', the last two being quite redundant as she has a cat door! But I try to do a WIP each Sunday night and I'm totally with you on the meal planning!! Ergh.
Fourthly, in spite of the aforementioned lower standards I still struggle with the routines vs rhythms thing and am looking forward to some more help!
Love this! Your concepts of rhythm and tilting are the two pieces of wisdom that drew me to your work, and I think tilting in particular is life changing. It makes me think a little of Oliver Burkeman's 4000 weeks and how we will never have the time to do all the things we want to do so, what's important, is whatever is in front of us now. As you write, saying yes to something does mean saying no to something else and that in itself can help us focus on what really matters.
I am loving Alone as well, especially the strong women!
And, my constant battle, too many books that I want to read!! I realised a while ago that with over 1500 books on my Goodreads 'want to read' list I will never read them all before I die! :-)
Super helpful -"read i in the car when I should be inside my home tilting with my grown up daughter!
😆 that's tilting baby!! Love it, Helen x
Loved this Brooke! Thanks so much. I’m loving Alone Australia too 😊
It's so great isn't it? I think we're down to 5 contestants now and I am so impressed with them all. They're all so knowledgable.
Guardians of the Galaxy really got me too. I’ll have to find Alone Australia. I love watching Alone. I could never do it but I am fascinated by it.

I made the plunge and subscribed and I’m so weirdly excited...does that make me strange 🤣🤣

And lastly, your letters are never too long :)
xx
I think my cats have the same plan as yours !!
Hi Winsome,
Ah the lowering of standards always a goal! Good on you for continually trying ❤️ it’s soooo difficult to accept less though huh 😂
Yep - but I'm the eternal optimist so there's hope yet!

My husband and I need a better WIP process as I spend much of my week reminding him of things we talked about
