My youngest child is 18 months old, so I feel like I’m emerging from the ‘life with baby’ phase and am resetting the systems in my life again. I’ve started with decluttering/reorganisation of home and life and my 1% will be to continue this. I can feel the deference already about how my children and I spend our time- they play better and we have more space/time for quality time. We are all less overwhelmed.

This comment takes me back Cassie! I went through a similar shift when my youngest was about 18 months old and couldn't believe the difference it made to all of us. I love this idea for the 1% - let us know how it goes. 💚

I'm going to give the 1% a crack this month.

I am taking part in a writing subscription with Sarah Sentilles and it involves using the prompts she provides and to write for 7 minutes. I feel so good when I do this. It is a real release. The prompts are all there, ready for me to use, so this is going to be encouragement I need to continue.

Looking forward to seeing how this pans out.

Love Cherie

I've heard so many good things about Sarah Sentilles' work - so glad you're enjoying the release of writing to her prompts. I'll have to check it out. Hope you and the fam are doing well xxxx

Well I ended up cancelling the subscription! It was just 'another thing to do' and it felt like hard work, not easy for me. I wrote back to Sarah and explained that - she so kindly asked why I had cancelled - and I said that the number of prompts was simply too many for me. I only need one per week! Anyway the intention of writing every day is still there and I love writing, perhaps no prompts are necessary!

Sending you love Brooke,

Cherie

My experiment fell off track slightly last term. I think my aims were a bit nebulous. This term I am trying to narrow the target. 15 mins cutting back or tidying in the garden and 15 minutes sorting photos on my phone (stolen from someone last term -such a great idea)

That's what I've tried to do too Megan - get a little more focused and concrete with my efforts while still giving myself enough flexibility for life/health stuff to crop up. The photos on the phone thing has been rattling around in the back of my head after someone (maybe Winsome?) mentioned it last term, so I figure it's going to be part of my 1% in the future too. If you find any helpful tips, let me know! 💚

My 1% has been dedicated mostly to planning to move from Port Douglas to Launceston. Every day I spend some time researching something about Launny, putting some admin efforts in to the house hunting process (talking to an agent, getting pre-approval sorted, reviewing removalist options etc), talking to people from Tassie (lord help the poor tourists that walk into my work and tell me they are from Tassie 😅) and of course smashing refresh on my saved searches on the real estate app thousands of times 🤣 it's a pretty big move so breaking things down is helping.

I've also started doing 1 dead hang most days because I want to try bouldering after I move and I know I'll need some callouses and better grip strength. I stopping training altogether 3yrs ago because the only local strength gym has such a toxic competitive culture so it's been nice to test the waters again.

Such a big process - I love that you're taking it so intentionally. When we sold everything any moved to Canada back in 2018 I think I tried to do something similar, making a small step every day. It definitely made the whole process much less overwhelming (even though it was still a huge thing). Keep us posted on the prep and any move - I'm excited for you!!

I’m focusing on finance and health. I feel the 1% will support me to keep o. Track Thank you for the downloads they will help. I’m looking forward to seeing how I go 🥰

You're so welcome Christine, glad they're going to be helpful. I really like the idea of finances as 1%. We worked through our budget a few weeks ago and have revamped our savings plan and I find the weekly deposit, no matter how small it is, is a bit of a thrill. Let us know how you go with your efforts. 💚

I am ready for another round of 1%. I tend to feel pressured to go all in when I start or revisit something. Thank you for the reminder to keep it small and manageable. ❤️

Ha, I could have written the exact same comment Blythe! I've always been an all-in or all-out person with this kind of stuff so the 1% is my reminder too. So glad to have you back for another round! 💚

I’m excited to join this month! For me, 15min of reading before bed (something I love doing but am often too distracted to make consistent) and 15min of going through my garage and popping things on marketplace and gumtree to sell! And then looking at how to recycle and donate remaining bits and bobs throughout my house- tasks I have been putting of for too long.

I love these Amy! It's so simple but so hard to carve out that time for reading before bed. Are you setting up a new reminder or trigger to get you into the habit?

Ohh good idea, I’ll set up a little reminder I think…

My goal is to keep working on closing my Apple rings (set at 20 min of activity a day). And finance, I will try to cut back on one ‘want’ purchase each day

I love the balance here Sarah - both the doing of the activity and the not-doing of the buying. I bet they end up feeling really significant by the end of the term. Thank you so much for sharing 💚💚

Brooke, have you heard of Gretchen Rubin’s new book Life in Five Senses? Some of your ideas for how to incorporate more pleasure into your days made me wonder if you may like that book. Hugs to you from the US (and a fellow King fan)!

I hadn't heard of Gretchen's new book, thank you so much for sharing! It sounds really lovely, like a gentle reminder to practise mindfulness in our every day, and that's my jam. I'll have to check it out. Big hugs to you in the US, from my rainy little corner of Australia 💚💚💚

I will be focusing on practicing more mindful social media use and adopting a whole foods-focused way of eating. I feel as if those two can be manifested by slowing down and really being present when I make decisions. I'm aiming for no more than 15 minutes per day of scrolling, and 1.5 hours per week of meal planning and prep. Thanks, as always, for doing this, Brooke—it is such an impactful, supportive idea!

Thank you so much for sharing this Megan - I feel like a lightbulb went off in my head reading your one-percents. Limiting something to 1% is just as powerful as filling it with something else. The idea of limiting scrolling is so powerful, and yes to keeping a lid on meal planning and prep too. Things like that can so quickly expand into much more of our time. Keep us posted as to how it goes 💚💚

I’m going to focus my 1% on unpacking the boxes that are not yet done, from my house move 18 months ago.

I ended up packing in somewhat of a hurry, (and with the help of kind family), and didn’t sort or declutter as much as I would have liked, prior to everything going into boxes. As such, many boxes are filled with miscellany, so it’s been overwhelming to open a box and be confronted with things from various ‘genres’.

So - 1% / 15min bursts should be good. I’ll just deal with whatever items are on top, and slowly make my way through.

This term I am in. I plan to improve my Finnish skills and devote 15 min a day to practising vocabulary or grammer. And as a slightly more active 1% I want to work on making my flat more cozy, finally framing and hanging up some pictures, finding better sorting systems for the most messy corners and all this little things that don't take long but somehow never get done.

I am looking forward to seeing how everyone is doing. There are so many beautiful goals and ideas in the comments as well. :)

Thinking it over I’m going to choose 2 areas.....the first decluttering and the second health.

As someone living with chronic health issues I really need to start looking after myself more and learning to say “no” will be part of this. It will allow me to spend the 1% focusing on health strategies to make life better for myself than it is now. I just have to work on saying “no” and not feeling guilty taking time for me!!

Decluttering is something I need to do but my health will necessitate it being done in small stages so this experiment will be a great help for this and hopefully avoid me becoming too overwhelmed with it.

Looking forward to seeing how we all go and cheering 📣 us all on 😊

Well done on your May 1%s Brooke and thanks for the examples of breaking your goals into smaller and more creative chunks. My 1% for May was really focussed on my health and making time for scans and doctor’s visits during the busiest time of my work year. It was so easy and guilt free because my health was the top goal. June will be more of the same!

Oh, and TIL there are exercises called “dead bugs” and “bird dogs”! 😃

Ooh I also like the idea of 15mins a day of sorting digital photos, so I’ll add that on as my second focus.

Thanks for the templates, Brooke!
